End of term: Going out with a bang or a flop?

The return of the DMU Bonkerz Class of 2015 bar crawl is just days away but organisers are pledging they have learnt lessons from its predecessor held in Freshers’ Week.

Following mixed reviews of the earlier freshers bar crawl, organisers said they have been busier than ever trying to ensure a more successful outcome.

The event this Thursday has already sold out of tour shirts, with an estimated 3,000 students due to stop off at 10 bars in Leicester’s city centre.

Meeting at the Campus Centre at 9.30pm will be the first group wearing either yellow or red shirts, followed by the later group of blue shirts leaving at 10pm.

Compared to the freshers bar crawl at the beginning of the year, this event is expected to be lower key with hopefully better reviews.

Psychology student at DMU, Keri-Ann Bishop, said: “I probably won’t go based on the outcome of the freshers bar tour. It was poorly organised and because they sold so many t-shirts and tickets you couldn’t physically get in to any of the bars. It was over priced and over-rated.”

However, many students thoroughly enjoyed last year’s tour. Journalism and Creative Writing student Lewis Bagshaw said: “I liked it. I met some cool people, it was a bit crowded but I enjoyed it.”

One of the main organisers, Tanwir Esmail, DSU Promotions Coordinator, added: “ It will never be bigger than Freshers’ Week but it will be more refined and in place. It will be more than what the students expect.

“The bars will be similar to Freshers’ Week but only DSU reps will know the times and locations. Students will just meet at the SU at certain times.

“We’ve sold out of t-shirts but tickets are still available from the DSU, Polar Bear and Soar Point.”

There is still a chance to bag yourself an exclusive tour shirt. Organisers will be holding a raffle at the Team DMU Stall in the Students’ Union today, selling raffle tickets for only £1 a line! The winner will be announced at 3pm today with all proceeds going to charity.

Get your tickets now; let’s end this term with a bang!
